Sandalwood Essential Oil is the most desired of essential oils. It is "true" Sandalwood Santalum album and the one referred to in most aromatherapy books. It is a common ingredient in perfumery for its pleasant aroma and fixative quality. It has a medium scent yet it comes through even when combined with strong aromas especially when warmed by the body or other methods. 
Sandalwood Essential Oil has perhaps the longest shelf life of all essential oils. If you can find samples 10 – 25 years old stored well they are probably still good. The chemistry may change and the aroma may even improve over time.
In skin and hair treatment it has many functions. It encourages new cell growth, regulates oil production, treats acne, moisturizes dry or chapped skin, it is even suitable for sensitive skin and young children. It speeds the healing process, increases white blood cell production and also fights inflammation, bacterial and fungal infection.
